Body Temperature is a major component of survival added by the Simple Difficulty mod. Your body temperature can be gauged by the orb in the center of your hotbar, between your Health and your Hunger/Thirst.

How it Works

Temperature is calculated based on a number of factors:

  • Seasons
  • Biome Temperature
  • Time of Day
  • Weather
  • Sprinting
  • Clothing
    • Wool Armor (Warms)
    • Sheep Disguise (Warms for half as much as Wool)
    • Ice Armor (Cools)
    • Lined Armor (Cools or Warms depending on choice of lining)
    • Enchanted Armor (Chilling/Heating)
  • Hot Source Blocks
    • Campfires
    • Furnaces
    • Lava
    • Magma Blocks
    • Fire
  • Being in Water
  • Being in Shade
  • Holding "hot" or "cold" items e.g. torches, Frost Rods.
  • Being near Coils
    • Heating Coils
    • Cooling Coils

Extreme Temperatures

Getting extremely hot or extremely cold can lead to Hyperthermia or Hypothermia, respectively. These are dangerous effects that, if left untreated, can slowly kill you. The potion of heat resistance, and cold resistance will make you immune to their respective thermia.

Hyperthermia

Hyperthermia

Hyperthermia can be caused by staying in hot places too long, such as a Desert, Savanna or Jungle. It can also be inflicted in the Summer season without proper regulation. It can be avoided by swimming in water to cool off, wearing Ice Armor or Cool Lined Armor, or having a Cooling Coil. A Potion of Heat Resistance will negate it completely.

Hypothermia

Hypothermia

Hypothermia can be caused by staying in cold places too long, such as the Snowy Taiga or the Snowy Tundra. It can also be inflicted in the Winter season without proper regulation. It can be avoided by staying near lava, using Campfires and Furnaces, wearing Wool Armor or Heat Liner Armor, or having a Heating Coil. A Potion of Cold Resistance will negate it completely.

Biomes

As Biomes are one of the main sources of temperature variation, a Thermometer can be crafted to analyze the temperature of the outside world. This will also be affected by seasons and other nearby features, which can help you verify if the temperature is safe to stay in for long periods of time.

Trivia

  • As of RLCraft 2.9, the Tough as Nails mod does not add the body temperature anymore. Instead it has been replaced by the modpack's own survival mod, Simple Difficulty, which adds more features regarding body temperature such as staying in the shade will affect temperature.
