Cacodemons are large, slow, flying demons that spawn in the Nether or during the Hell’s Fury event. They are tameable and fire Demonic Blast Charges from their mouths.

Spawning

Cacodemon can spawn in the Nether.

Cacodemon can spawn from larger Nether Portals. The minimal 2x4 portal never spawns them.

Cacodemon spawners can be found in Nether Doomlike Dungeons, Demonic Temples (Lycanites Dungeon) and Dungeons (Vanilla).

Combat

Cacodemons float in the air, so bringing a bow or other ranged weapon of some sort is mandatory. They occasionally fire off charges, but by sidestepping them you can avoid significant damage. The charges explode and can destroy blocks so don't use dirt as cover. If they spot you and you hide, they may get close enough to reach them with melee weapons.

Taming

Taming a Cacodemon can be tricky because of the fact that they float in the air and their treats are expensive. By towering up using blocks, you can reach them, but be careful not to fall down or it’s back to square one. You can also use a flying mount to reach them, preferably one with fire resistance. If you can pull it off, however, they can be equipped with a saddle so you can ride them around the Nether.

Their mount ability allows you to fire its Demonic Lightning charges, but they will also attack any mob that you attack.

Demon Treats can be use to tame cacodemon.

Pain Elemental

In a Demonic Temple, a modified Ebon Cacodemon can appear as a boss. This boss is called The Pain Elemental, and can drop 50+ diamonds, Demonic Blast Charges, and a Demon Soulstone

Trivia

  • Cacodemons come from the Doom series of first-person shooter.
  • The Pain Elemental boss and Russet variants of Cacodemon are both likely references to the Pain Elemental from the same series, Doom.
    • Despite this, the Pain Elemental boss found in-game is an Ebon Cacodemon, as opposed to a Russet.
