Overview

Salamanders are hostile creatures commonly found near lakes of lava and are found around the world. While they don't hit too hard, they make up for it by afflicting Smouldering on each attack, while also having decent defense, allowing it to take more hits than regular mobs.

Behavior

They will usually be found resting inside or around large pools of lava and have a relatively low range of detection. Once detected they will chase after their target, albeit not very quickly, so it wouldn't be too hard to escape from one. If the player does get hit they will have Smouldering applied to them, meaning that for 3 seconds they are constantly on fire and can not be set out by water, although remaining in water negates any damage they might take from the effect.

Spawning

Salamander can spawn in any Overworld biome, in the Nether or in The End. Can only spawn in lava.

Every time you catch a fish in lava, there is a 0.85% chance of a Salamander to spawn.

Salamander spawners can be found in Volcanic Doomlike Dungeons, Ashen Mausoleums (Lycanites Dungeon) and Dungeons (Vanilla).

Taming

Salamanders can be tamed with 6-8 amphibian treats and Lvl 2 knowledge of them. They can be ridden with an amphibian saddle.

When ridden you will receive Fire resistance II for as long as you ride it and can freely swim through lava without any harm (shift to descend into lava and space to swim up lava). Likewise it can also swim through water as well. This can help players traverse the Nether with ease or reach ores that are submerged in lava without much difficulty.

The salamanders mount ability is a bite that does 2 damage and applies Smouldering for 3 seconds, which is somewhat useful for weakening mobs but not efficient at killing them.
